What and where to eat in Cuenca Ecuador?

What and where to eat in Cuenca Ecuador? First, we are always going to talk about eating but we know, let's not fool ourselves, that drinks are as important as a good meal. So, Eating is also Drinking!

We have always been lovers of quality before quantity and, if possible, we choose authentic and refined up to gourmet!

But there is no denying that a good "hueca" - more traditional and less luxurious place - can serve you some majestic dishes. We love these special places, where the saying "the habit does not make the monk" applies, that will always surprise you with their inner beauty and that in Ecuador will always surprise you...

"Every thing has its beauty, but not everyone can see it."

Cuenca, in Ecuador, has always been a special city for us, we travel there for something special, to celebrate, to change the air, it is rejuvenating.

And one of its jewels, apart from its goldsmithery, is the variety of its gastronomic offer, which always surprises us!

Choosing the place where to delight your palate, in Cuenca, is an art, we leave you some photos of the places we visited on this trip. You can see some photos of What and where to eat in Cuenca Ecuador?

What and where to eat in Cuenca Ecuador?

First of all, we stayed at the Santa Lucia Boutique Hotel where, due to the location of the Covid, breakfast was served in our room, how delicious! Impeccable service, everything clean and with biosecurity measures. And now let's see What and where to eat in Cuenca Ecuador?

Nos coups de coeur: (in French literally "blow of the heart" = what we liked)

1. Osaka Ramen

Small Asian restaurant located in San Sebastian park, the owners are fantastic a couple from the Philippines who have lived in different places (Spain, Japan...) and they make a fusion of Asian food that we loved. We tried the ramen of course, the sushi which is exquisite, the shrimp stir-fry and more sushi... we visited them twice in 5 days! Highly recommended!

2. Jodoco Belgian Bistro

The place where we always go to drink a good Belgian beer because the truth is, here in Ecuador, there are more American or German style breweries than Belgian. And I love Belgian beers, if I really think of a beer that I would dream of drinking here, it would be the Kwak.

In Jodoco, you can drink, snack, eat, in short, an excellent atmosphere with beer!

3. Sinfonía Tostaduría and Cafeteria

Perfect for morning or afternoon, we are coffee fans and addicts and can't live without a good coffee. When we leave the house, we don't have the standard of coffee we like anywhere, and we always have to search and search to find a pearl of specialty coffee shop in every corner we visit. In Cuenca we found it at Sinfonía Tostaduría y Cafetería! Very tasty hummus and yogurt with granola.

4. La Esquina

On our first night, we didn't know where to eat, and wandered down Calle Larga until we came to a corner. I had seen it several times but we had never been inside. It is an Argentine restaurant specializing in plough disc cuisine. There is a tasting menu Esquina for 2 that comes with 1 appetizer, chicken and beef tenderloin in different sauces accompanied by rich potatoes and a salad with glasses of wine and dessert. amazing!

5. La Taqueria

As we can't miss a Mexican meal wherever we go, we always try to look as Mexican as possible... The truth is that the Taqueria attracted us by its pictures, everything looked nice, and it is. We ordered a tasting plate for the 2 of us and it was delicious in sufficient quantity and they even gave us a tequila for my wife's birthday.

Hopefully the next time you travel to Cuenca, if you didn't already know your huecas you will be able to see these amazing places. But you tell me in comment: What and where to eat in Cuenca Ecuador?
