La Cascina Peguche is the BEST pizzeria near Otavalo and one of the only wood-fired ovens in the north of the country. And for me, one of the best I have tasted in Ecuador.
Eating a Neapolitan pizza is not always easy in Ecuador, many make a pizza with super thick dough (in the style of the US adaptation of pizza) and with lots of cheese and toppings that in the end you eat 2 slices and get full. NO, this is not the original pizza, it is Neapolitan, and you can eat one for yourself, all by yourself.
Neapolitan-style pizza: the favorite of true pizza lovers is like specialty coffee for coffee lovers. And if you've never tried a real Italian-style pizza, come to La Cascina in Peguche that will teach you a good lesson. Thin and crispy dough, quality ingredients, and of course cooked in a WOODEN OVEN in less than 2 minutes. I recommend "la corte" with Serrano ham, arugula and Parmesan or the new Prosciutto Crudo and also the Pugliese (with tuna and onion).
Preserving the true Italian tradition of pizza making. And I swear they succeeded.
A small, simple, but cozy place, with the wood oven as a fundamental part of the place in front of the entrance door. A menu with 17 pizze and 2 calzone (pie-shaped pizza) but you can ask for what you like and they will surely make it for you.
